Please forgive the lull in posts recently. You know how summer goes, but I’m hoping to get back to posting on a more regular schedule here….you know, getting into the “rhythm” of writing, if you will. On that “note” – I’d like to share with you some very exciting musical happenings taking place this weekend in DFW.
Thursday
GOOD LUCK KARAOKE AT THE TWILITE LOUNGE – Why not start this weekend of music out in a bar full of potential singers, yourself included? You can expect a symphony of sound, entertainment, laughter, and overall good, high-fivin’ times.
Don’t feel like singing? There’s no pressure from the fun-loving emcee’s, who typically come dressed up in costume and carry on in character throughout the night. Laughter ensues. Need more convincing? Would being named Best Karaoke in Dallas by D Magazine get your attention, because that’s the honor that was bestowed upon Good Luck Karaoke this year. So warm up those vocal chords and get over to Deep Ellum tonight.
Friday
BEN KWELLER AT THE GRANADA (10 pm)- Here’s a much anticipated show from one of Texas’ own. I’ve only seen Kweller perform once, but I was blown away by his set, and the crowd seemed to be equally enthralled. Though it’s been a few years since I’ve seen him live, I doubt much has changed in the way of his awesomeness.
And the fact that he’s performing at The Granada makes it that much better because it’s one of my favorite venues in Dallas. So I highly suggest that you attend this show, and get your tickets as soon as possible because a sell out wouldn’t surprise me.
RTB2 AT SUNDOWN AT GRANADA (11 pm)- Trying to save some bucks but still want to take in a great show? Head over to Sundown to see Denton’s dynamic duo, RTB2 play a free show!
I was stoked to see that these guys would be playing at Sundown, another favorite haunt of mine. Shows at Sundown are typically more intimate, which I enjoy, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys draw a crowd Friday night. Expect so much rock and roll, you’ll forget it’s just a two man band.
Saturday
LOCAL BREWS, LOCAL GROOVES AT HOUSE OF BLUES, FT. THE O’S (3 pm)- This Saturday afternoon in Dallas make the choice to listen to good local music while downing some of the best craft beer in the area at The House of Blues. Local Booze, Local Grooves is dubbed “the ultimate music and craft beer festival”. Local breweries featured at the event include- Deep Ellum Brewery, Four Corners, Franconia, Rahr & Sons, and more.
But don’t forget the other part of the festival- “the grooves”. I’m most looking forward to The O’s performance as these guys always put on a delightful show with good tunes and well-timed banter. But other performers will be there too- Doug Burr, Jessie Frye, Buffalo Ruckus, and more!
RHETT MILLER & SALIM NOURAHLLAH AT SHIPPING AND RECEIVING BAR FORT WORTH (8 pm)- Head over to Fort Worth Saturday night to take in the sounds of Dallas legends Rhett Miller and Salim Nourahllah.
What can I say about this show? That Miller (Old 97’s lead singer) can rock out on an acoustic guitar like you’ve never seen? That Nourahllah’s dreamy sounds will take you back to a better time? Yes I can, and I did!
So go give your ears a treat in Fort Worth this Saturday. What’s more, I’ve yet to make it over to the Shipping and Receiving Bar and am looking forward to checking it out.
Love the O’s… they especially go well with some cold local beer.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Bill! Yes, I totally agree- nothing like pairing some good local tunes with some good local brews 🙂 Hope you had a good weekend!
